Chihuahua breeders / owners: sometimes my chi doesn't have an appetite - won't eat or drink much of anything..
for a full day, like yesterday. Today, he has eaten a little, still not like his normal appetite. No other symptoms of an illness, just no appetite. I will take him to the vet tomorrow if he doesn't eat more today, 'cause with his size, a small weight loss is very noticable. Anyway, what would cause him to not want to eat? What can I do to encourage him to eat? His typical daily diet is 1/2 to 3/4 can of Science Diet dog food, and he normally weighs between 3 and 4 lbs.
Offer him 1/2 of a boiled chicken liver, or shredded boiled chicken, just to keep him from getting hypoglycemic today, and having siezures.
Do take him to the vet tomorrow, as these little guys can fade so quickly. When my teacup poodle did the same thing, my vet told me that when he had these spells, I would have to feed him by force, baby food lamb. Just hold him and spoon it down, followed by unsalted broth. Rub his throat to make him swallow.
