A big misconception with having a beer belly is that it is caused by drinking too much alcohol. The fact is that the roll of tummy is caused by consuming too much food. All the excess calories and carbohydrates get turned into and is deposited as around the tummy.

Another misconception of losing that belly fat is just concentrating on abdominal exercises. Yes, do play an important part in achieving a fantastic six pack abs. The only thing is, you have to burn off the belly fat before working on toning the abs.

The only real and healthy option is to turn to and . A good low-carbohydrate, high-protein diet will assist you greatly in weight-loss. Carbohydrates turn into sugar and fat when left unused by your body. Coupled with , protein restores the muscle which you might burn on your way to losing that belly fat.

Six small meals a day will chase away any which might linger from your change in diet. The frequency of the meals will keep your stomach fuller and working for longer, which will prevent the urge to snack. If you cannot help but much on something, try a handful of unsalted almonds, whites or a personal can of tuna in brine. These are healthy snacks which will not add unnecessary fat into your diet.

All these fresh and healthy food needs to be complemented with some exercise to get that belly fat reduction going. The word “exercise” has been misjudged and misconstrued for the longest time. It does not mean you have to feel a burning pain during and after you work out. In fact, if you do, it probably means you have over-strained yourself.

Exercise can be as simple as taking the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator. A walk to the neighbourhood shop for some milk is also exercise. 30 minutes a day of constant movement is all you need to get the ball rolling—or in this case, get the belly fat burning. It is well documented that any form of exercise will start those metabolism rates increasing. This means we burn fat faster when we exercise. This does not mean that we can eat more just because we are burning more.

There is a little trick I learned during winter when it is too miserable to get out of the house and you just don’t feel like doing anything. When you are cooking, or just putting together something to eat, march on the spot. This movement gets your legs moving and blood pumping, which means increased metabolism rates! When watching the television, I do some abs exercises like flexing and clenching. These are also great abdominal workouts to strengthen abs. Leg lifts, yoga and pilates are fantastic workouts to do at home which will both strengthen your muscles and lose that belly fat.

It is obvious getting rid of the fat beer belly is not all that difficult. A small change in your lifestyle can result in a drastic change in your health and appearance.
